I was deeply moved by Zift. The bleak story was brilliantly presented in film noir style. The direction and photography intensified the horror and despair. The music was discordant and although it shared the same themes as 'Lives of Others", Zift stayed true to the reality of life behind the iron curtain at the time (no sentimentality at all).
