Yesterday’s shot had a big hint in the unusual 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Yes, it was the made-for-TV movie Merlin with a massive collection of great performances including Sam Neil, Miranda Richardson (See our previous Finite Focus), Rutgar Hauer, Lena Heady, Helena Bonham Carter, Martin Short and Isabella Rossellini. One of the better TV minis from the 1990s before series TV started to get as good or better than feature films. Does anyone know if there exists an anamorphic wide-screen version of this 3 hour plus series? Were the producers/archivers wise enough to matte it that way at some point? It seems a shame if it was not. It was pretty epic as TV productions go. It also holds up quite well nearly a decade after its airing.

Sticking with the fantasy bent, this new still offers many flying fellows in front of a gargantuan Moon.

Yesterday’s shot wasn’t hard, it was the signature image from the offbeat Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan romantic comedy, Joe Vs. The Volcano, that involves suicide, brain clouds and toxic fluorescent lights – you know, the staples of the genre – . (Trivia. Director John Patrick Shanley has only directed this one and Doubt, two films split by 17 years.) The mega-moon sure is a dandy to look at either way.

Todays shot takes a different approach; going from massive lunar real estate to one that can (and is) rolled on the fingers.

Last week’s theme was ‘beautiful people’ mugging for the camera in strange and unusual ways. While this doesn’t exactly explain John’s logic for closing the week with Moonwalker (only and correct guess from Goon); although perhaps M.J. was comely enough before he went space alien in body and mind. (On an unrelated note, check out the recent auction of his stuff, it is sublimely weird). This weeks theme is Moon shots. Maybe the celestial body, perhaps another part of the body. We’ll see. The first one is below.

Lee figured out that Thursday’s quiz was from Leprechaun. That indeed was Jennifer Aniston before Friends. The quiz in the attractive actresses looking bad is a bit of a trick quick. Hope you can figure it out.

Webomatica figured out that Wednesday’s quiz was from Weird Science. Kelly Lebrock had amazing hair! Here is today’s screen shot with another attactive actress looking not so attractive. Good luck!

No one figured out that Thursday’s quiz was from Bolero. This scene in particular was from a “sex” scene involving Bo Derek. I’ve decided to switch up the theme for this week. Instead of “bad” movies this week will be dedicated to attractive women making faces. Here is today’s screen shot. Good luck!

Robert R. figured out that Thursday’s quiz was from The Wild Bunch, my favorite Peckinpah film. I apologize for there being no quiz on Friday. I forgot it was a holiday and I spent the time with the family so that was the last of the western quizzes. This week’s theme is Bad Movies. Here is today’s screen shot. Good luck!

Lee quickly figured out that yesterday’s quiz was from Paint Your Wagon. Today I’m heading back into more standard Western fair. There is a lot less singing in this one than in Paint Your Wagon.

This week’s theme is Westerns. Here is today’s screen shot. Good luck!

Ralph was the first to say that yesterday’s quiz was from Django. From the sounds of everyone’s comments it would be worth my time to check it out. Today’s shot is from a movie that I haven’t seen in over a decade or two. At the time I wasn’t too impressed but I’d like to revisit it coming up in the future as I think I might feel differently about it now.

This week’s theme is Westerns. Here is today’s screen shot. Good luck!

Andrew guessed that yesterday’s quiz was from Appaloosa after guessing a few other movies. I have a feeling many people still haven’t seen Ed Harris’ western from last year. Appaloosa doesn’t have a huge amount to say but it is a lot of fun and really is what a popcorn flick should be, highly entertaining. There were a lot of guesses yesterday so I tried to pick a shot from a movie not from any of the guesses. I haven’t seen this one but I like the shot. If you figure out what it is let me (and everyone else) know if its worth watching.

This week’s theme is Westerns. Here is today’s screen shot. Good luck!

No one figured out that yesterday’s quiz was from the opening of Moonraker. Bond is pushed out of a plane without a parachute by Jaws. After an impressive fight in the air where Bond steals a parachute off a pilot Jaw tries to open up his parachute only to break the pull cord. The opening sequence finishes with Jaw crashing into a circus tent which collapses. Don’t worry, Jaw doesn’t die from falling out of a plane. Moonraker is Bond at his campiest.

This week’s theme is Westerns. Here is today’s screen shot. Good luck!

Swarez quickly figured out that yesterday’s quiz was from License to Kill and the young actor in the shot was Benicio Del Toro. I never even realized that it was him in the movie until I just did the quiz but I’ll admit that I’ve been picking Bond flicks that I don’t watch as often as some. For today’s quiz I’ve picked on from a Bond movie that I’ve seen dozens of times.
