Cinecast Episode 438 – Mary Sue’s Jockstrap

Competition is the name of the game; with the ladies, with the social status, with amount of beer you can drink, with the wittiness, with the bloody knuckles and with the baseball. Or maybe this is just Linklater’s examination of how a bunch of guys hang out in the very early 1980s. Either way, we’re good. We take a step forward in time and recap the entire season six of Game of Thrones. That’s right, there are major SPOILERS to be heard. So if you have not seen all of season six (including episode ten), then maybe skip this one. Due to scheduling and time constraints, we’re leaving The Watch List for another day, but it will be back.

As always, please join the conversation by leaving your own thoughts in the comment section below and again, thanks for listening!

This episode seems to be showing up on the old “Cinecast only” feed, but not in the main RowThree podcast feed.

Anyone finding this in whatever podcatcher they use? And where in the feed is it chronologically?

It’s not on my iTunes feed. But chronologically, the feed never goes back that far for Row Three.

Ha! I just watched Everybody Wants Some last night and I found this phantom episode on search. I forgot the story behind this. Just lost track and skipped this number and then decided to fill it? Either way, good work.

SPOILER ALERT FOR GAME OF THRONES AND SEAN BEAN’S SHARPE XXXXXSPOILER ALERT FOR GAME OF THRONES AND SEAN BEAN’S SHARPE XXXXXSPOILER ALERT FOR GAME OF THRONES AND SEAN BEAN’S SHARPE XXXXXSPOILER ALERT FOR GAME OF THRONES AND SEAN BEAN’S SHARPE XXXXX

The law of diminishing returns has set in with Game Of Thrones for me. I found the season just ended largely predictable, and thus a little dull. I liked the Ian McShane episode and I’m looking forward to following The Hound’s progress.

They killed Ramsey Bolton much too late for it to have much impact on me. There’s a real skill in knowing when to off a baddie for optimum emotional impact.

I once stumbled across an episode of the Sean Bean vehicle, Sharpe, which featured Pete Postlethwaite as a seamy villain who talked about his liking for womens ‘titties’. He was a vile character and at the end of the episode I was rooting for his demise, psyched up for a release of dislike for him, but that wasn’t to be, his story continuing into the next episode. When he eventually died at the end of that I wasn’t particularly bothered, much as when Ramsey died my feelings were yeah, whatever.

I really loved the event episode when Kings Landing was attacked by sea, but have found the event episodes after that to be underwhelming. Incredibly well shot, yes, but largely uninvolving. This season largely followed that trend, as did the final episode.

Where was the storyline with the emotional punch of the Red Wedding or ‘I Will Be Your Champion’ this season?

My two favourite comedies of last year, Veep and Silicon Valley were similarly disappointing this year.

Silicon Valley seemed to be repeating storylines early on and, more importantly, completely forgot the funny.

Veep took a hell of a comedy dip too, after last year’s hilarious peak, but at least it picked up a bit in the second half of the season, the funny bits usually involving the ever hilarious Jonah, (Timothy Simons) his new sidekick Sam (Richard Splett) and Gary (Tony Hale).

I couldn’t get this on my Itunes feed so I’ve just downloaded it from the link here.
