Cinecast Episode 424 – 2015 Year in Review and The Revenant (The Whole Bloody Affair)

We did it. With the help of Jim Laczkowski from The Director’s Club Podcast, we come damn close to the 5-hour mark; which I believe is the longest running show in Cinecast history (ask Jay Cheel for clarification on that fact). We hit Innaritu’s THE REVENANT and Charlie Kaufman’s ANOMALISA before getting into general thoughts on 2015 as a whole and then three top five lists from four hosts. It gets exhausting… and a little drunken. It’s 3am and I must be lonely. We hope you enjoy the show. Sheesh.

As always, please join the conversation by leaving your own thoughts in the comment section below and again, thanks for listening!

Re Kurt ramming it down our throats about how unengaged he felt watching The Revenant.

I felt absolutely outraged on Leo’s behalf at Tom Hardy. I felt for Will Poulter re the quandary he found himself in. I felt for Native Americans, particularly two of them. I felt fearful for Domhnall Gleeson when every fibre of his being made him do the right thing even though it was clear that this was unwise. I wanted Tom Hardy to face the consequences of his actions and I felt sad for Leo at the end.

The last time I felt this engaged by a movie was Birdman. The Golden Globes got it right.

PS It was nice that someone remembered Sarah Snook’s performance in Predestination.

Regarding “It’s hard to be a god” and asuming all of us germans are into scat and shit 😉
Actually an earlier adaption of the story exists.
I barely remember seeing it when i was 15 or so, not crasping anything about that movie.

Now im intrigued and want to rewatch it and see the newer version

So Matt Gamble goes on about hipsters, then chooses Dope and WWDITS in his top 5?

If Todd Haynes is a hipster, then hipster is no longer a pejorative term. That was one of Gamble’s odder rants, in my opinion. Really enjoyed the drunken banter as always! I vote for more drunken podcasts please.

I don’t usually do this but hearing about what that story of the Revenant was before it was turned into that movie kinda makes me hate it more because that movie seemed perfectly crafted to win a bunch of awards and get forgotten 6 months after.
