Cinecast Episode 407 – Martinis and Back Slapping

Legendarily short show here folks. We like what we see, there just is not much to get into with it. First off is Easy-E, Dre and Cube lighting fires and white-washing in Straight Outta Compton. Then we get back to more “classic” styling with designer suits, 60s fashions, and a really nice bottle of Mo√ęt in Guy Ritchie’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E..

As always, please join the conversation by leaving your own thoughts in the comment section below and again, thanks for listening!

The mental image of a young Kurt calling classmates whiggers is hilarious to me.

Well, there you have that. I didn’t say it on the show, but you get the idea.

The amazing brevity of this episode will be offset in anticipation of actually listening to a new DC Podcast installment.

How many pre-existing franchises did they have though? It’s 8, Kurt. It’s not like they were doing anything any other studio doesn’t do. The only hit movies they had that weren’t pre-existing franchises were Trainwreck and Compton, and they lucked out that both of those had built in fanbases as well.

The big thing that has helped them is pretty much every hit they have had has massively over-performed at the box office. They’ve also released a crap ton of movies so far this year (18 already) which has also helped cover up for all their misses (Black Hat, The Boy Next Door, Seventh Son, Unfriended, Ted 2 -> which still made $80+ million) by the sheer volume of their release schedule. And they still have 12 more releases left this year.

F7 and JW alone account for much of the success, yes.
