Mamo #399: It Follows That It Follows Would Do Well

Mamo!

OK here’s what happened: we’d just finished recording a new episode of Let’s Scare Matthew Price to Death with our friend Dan Gorman, when we got to talking about It Follows, horror movies at the box office, and why every big movie in the genre seems to be treated like the biggest thing ever. What… er… followed was a pickup game of Mamo with one of our favourite guest stars!

My favourite way to reference other movies in a review, or a conversation, is along the lines of what it resembles, or a feeling similar to other films it evokes.

Agreed that hyperbole extends to the need in our RottenTomatoes film criticism world to stand out against hundreds of other internet reviews. The other approach is Armond White.

Also: I took 3 Drinks during this. Two for the “Value Proposition” coming up twice, and one for my named being dropped on the value proposition coming up. I like this game.

I haven’t listened to the episode yet, but I will agree that It Follows is being overhyped (even though I like the film).

Great conversation. Interesting insights into the hyperbole that genre projects generate / propagate. After listening, I read Simon Abram ‘ s review of Spring, which was interesting in light of MAMO 399.
