Star Wars VII Cast Announced

Thirty years after the events of Return of the Jedi, a new story is about to be told. But there will be familiar faces. JJ Abrams and Disney today announced the cast of the next chapter in the Star Wars saga. No mention of who they will be portraying, but these are the names – most which are already familiar to us:

John Boyega
Daisy Ridley
Adam Driver
Oscar Isaac
Andy Serkis
Domhnall Gleeson
and Max von Sydow

Original cast members include:
Harrison Ford
Carrie Fisher
Mark Hamill
Peter Mayhew
Anthony Daniels

and Kenny Baker

See them all in action, December 2015.

  1. A nice mix of familiar, yet not over-exposed young faces. The kid in me can’t help but get a little excited, even if I know better.

      • I should know better, right? I’m still not over that. Or the prequels.

Still, maybe I’m coming around. Maybe I’ll have a different perspective this time, since I have a little dude to enjoy them with now. He will be too young to see the 2015 one in theaters, but by the time the second of the new trilogy hits, we should be able to enjoy them all together.

I’ll be watching this new trilogy evolve with an open mind. I mean, they can’t be as awful as Crystal Skull or the prequels… right?

    • Part of me thinks that I should get excited, but the prequels have left a bad enough taste in my mouth, as well over saturation of questionable Star Wars licensing and material, that I’m just slightly curious. I’ll have to see how it all works out, but perhaps without Lucas these new movies have a chance.

      • I’m in the same boat Matthew. I said at some point on the Cinecast or some other thread, at this point, I kind of feel like – why the hell not. I just throw up my arms and hope for the best. If it’s awesome, then terrific. If it sucks, oh well. Everything Star Wars has sucked for the past 20 years anyway (actually “The Clone Wars” was alright), so if this doesn’t work out, who really cares anymore?

  2. I’m not so jaded that I don’t get excited for Fisher, Ford and Hamill. In fact, I’d say I’m excited.

The Exorcist is in Star Wars? Not that strange given that Lucas put a bunch of Hammer Horror actors in the OT.

Sidenote. Those Hammer Horror films must be loved by directors. Lucas, Burton, and Peter Jackson all use Lee and Cushing. I’m not that familiar with Hammer, but the love for those movies is obvious.
