Cinecast Episode 330 – Whiskey Sour

Things feel a little bit off kilter these days with such a crappy holiday movie release schedule (so far!). But we finally get to fawn all over Alexander Payne and his latest film (in black and white), Nebraska. Kurt chimes in on Disney’s frigid stab at getting back to basics with Frozen. And continuing on with our December top fives, this week has the best in movie trailers of 2013. In the comment section, please drop in some of your favorite movie trailers of 2013 (just drop in the URL for any YouTube videos and they will self-embed). As for homework this week, send us a few of (or full top 10 if you wish) your favorite female performances of 2013 to go along with our list for next weeks show. And we bring things to a close with, quite unlikely, a double helping of Adam Sandler. Yeah.

As always, please join the conversation by leaving your own thoughts in the comment section below and again, thanks for listening!

Markus Krenn The Spring Breakers one is a great choice!
Also, love how LiveFyre takes all of your links and sort of makes an interface out of all the videos.  Nice.

Maybe I watched Goodfellas and Boogie Nights too many times, but I was really unimpressed with the American Hustle trailer.  That type of editing got tired for me after Blow.

Man of Steel was the only trailer I watched prolly more than 15-20 times, which was prolly the reason why I was at first a bit disappointed in the movie.  Now of course, I just love it and praise it whenever I can lol.

So for trailers
You mentioned Man of Steel but the wrong trailer the final trailer is what got me to see that thing because the best piece of anything to come out around that film is still the main theme and the way it is incorporated into that final trailer is AMAZING.

Surprised neither of you mentioned the Stoker trailer

Upstream Color

And yeah the Spring Breakers trailer posted earlier is just amazing.

I’m still wondering if this year of cinema was so bad, that we are celebrating trailers.
But i forgot about this awesome one…

Markus Krenn Having thought about it for a few days, it was a pretty good year for going to the movies, just not a particularly good one for going to see Multiplex “Tentpole” Studio Movies or Kids Animated Movies.

KurtHalfyard Markus Krenn better than average for me and I saw far less films than most years.  and while probably none of the summer films will be on my top ten, it was easily my favorite of the last few years.

So that’s my list, I agree with Kurt that the year wasn’t completely awful, but the mainstream year was terrabad. There were a lot of good movies, they just weren’t the ones that you could see if you went to your average cineplex. I feel like, you needed to go to a more art house theatre to see the best films of the year.
Also that LEGO Movie trailer is awesome!

I hope that wasn’t a potshot at my Lego Trailer. I just haven’t seen alot of good movies this year, regardless in which drawer they may fit.

so Kurt, December… are you in need of season 1 of The Sopranos?

I saw Frozen yesterday and really liked it, specifically because it is Disney returning to their roots.  I actually liked it better than Brave and I hope the film gets nominated for (and wins) Best Animated Film at the Oscars.

I pay more attention to the voice cast in movies and recognized Kristen Bell, who is the lead (younger) princess.  The older princess is Idina Menzel, who is known for her Broadway work (she’s also in Enchanted). Josh Gad is the snowman and Alan Tudyk is a villainous Duke.

The film’s big musical number is actually on Disney’s YouTube channel, so I’ll link to it (the songs in the film are great). http://youtu.be/moSFlvxnbgk

Matt GambleSir, yes, Sir. I totaly agree. I especially liked the cthulhu vibe i got from it. And the Anti-Independence Day like speech.

Matt Gamble Yep!  I love this trailer, but easily, my list above still stands.  It takes big balls to reference 2001 unironically and even bigger talent to get away with it.  Kudos to WB and Gareth Edwards on this one.

Have you seen this one? It’s fucking incredible. Perfect teaser.

Matt Gamble I remember that one.  It’s good.  Didn’t we post it on the site way back when?  Maybe not, it came out as a bootleg then followed along a lot later…

Markus Krenn ajames1 Yeah tell me about it.  Besides school starting back up we had a MAJOR plumbing issue here and I wasn’t able to get to the post.

Monday will suck a lot less next week.  🙂
