Even after watching the trailer for Movie 43, I’m not really sure what it’s all about. According to IMDb, it’s an “ensemble comedy intertwining different tales,” so perhaps it’s aiming to be the Valentine’s Day and New Years Eve of the comedy world, where it has a load of big stars doing a very little in independent stories that are only mildly connected. Either way, there are plenty of names attached to attract people to the movie.
Filmed back in 2010 and originally titled Red Band, segments from the movie are directed by Patrik Forsberg, Peter Farrelly, Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk and Brett Ratner. I’m not going to list all of the cast, because it’s unbelievably large, but names involved include Kate Winslet, Richard Gere, Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Uma Thurman, Emma Stone, Terrence Howard, Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Bell, Gerard Butler, Anna Faris, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Sean William Scott, Justin Long, and J.B. Smoove.
And that’s only about half of ‘em.
I can’t imagine this being anything other than a huge disconnected mess. The trailers below – the first of which is green band, the second which is red band – do not inspire much confidence either. In fact, the redband trailer begins with Anna Faris asking Chris Pratt if he will poop on her. Hmm.
My guess is that most of the actors involved did it because they wanted to have some fun working together and it probably only took them a couple of days to film their scenes. Either way, the mega cast has worked in my case. Despite not even getting a chuckle from the trailer, I’m going to have to watch it for sheer curiosity’s sake. Movie 43 hits theaters on the equally uninspiring date of January 25, 2012.
Do you think Movie 43 looks funny? Or are you, like me, thinking this is going to be a huge mess?

I actually think it looks pretty great. It’s like all of those lame (“Scary Movie”) parody films that get worse and worse each year. BUT… this one, like you mentioned, has the cast to make it tolerable and probably pretty enjoyable. A) because these people will bring something to the table these other cheap films can’t (dialogue suggestions, quality performances, etc.) and B) this many big actors probably wouldn’t sign on for something totally awful – at least we would hope.
I think the jokes in this trailer land for the most part. Now, if all the best stuff is in here and the rest of the movie are the second tier jokes, then woe is me.
For whatever reason, the jokes didn’t work for me in the trailer. I’m hoping that once I see the jokes in context they will work a little better for me.
I do think the concept of Liev Schreiber trying to give his home schooled son a “real high school experience” could turn out great though.
This makes no sense to me.
To me it looks like clips from a season of Saturday Night Live. A bunch of celebrities who stared in various episodes and even pulling the best of material from the season turns out to be a bit of hit and miss.
