• TIFF 2012: Beautiful trailer for Australian drama “Lore”

    Lore Still

A few years ago, four to be exact, I had the opportunity to catch up with Cate Shortland’s first feature film, a coming of age drama titled Somersault (review) which starred then relative unknowns Abbie Cornish and Sam Worthington. I was impressed by the performances but also by Shortland’s beautiful direction.

Eight years, and one TV movie, later Shortland returns with Lore, another film about female sexual awakening though this time the story takes place in 1945 Germany, shortly after the collapse of the German army and stars Saskia Rosendahl as Lore, the eldest daughter of Nazi sympathizers who finds herself and her siblings travelling through the German countryside.

Lore has already played the Sydney and Locarno film festivals and was recently selected to play TIFF where it should pick up even more accolades because considering Shortland’s previous work and this trailer, this is most definitely “must watch” material.
