The Free Range Film Festival is starting up its ninth year at the end of July and their 2012 schedule just went live yesterday. For fans of the short film, this festival will sure to delight as it’s mostly an all-day, all-night run of films in the 2 to 15 minute range followed by a feature length film as the headliner on Friday and Saturday night.
So what is this barn I speak of? Well, you can watch the promo video below or you can check out some pics over on their Facebook page. But essentially it’s a 14’x24’ screen with full surround sound in the loft portion of a giant barn. There’s popcorn, snacks and drink available and the best part?… It’s free! Sorta. They want viewers to come on down for nothing but donations are encouraged to help keep up with barn maintenance and to enhance the experience for next year.
This year’s festival runs July 27th and 28th in Wrenshall, Minnesota; just thirty minutes southwest of Duluth. You can get exact directions from the festival main web site. Hope to see some of you there!
The promo is stuck under the seats…

“just 30 minutes south of Duluth” may be the description of the most convenient least convenient place on the earth.
