Without wanting to sound disrespectful as I was a big fan of the guy (I loved him in The Wild Bunch especially), I will always love his early cameo in the Simpsons. For some reason it always stands out amongst all the other celebrity cameos. It was in the raft race episode where he’s brought in as a ‘replacement dad’.
It’s been a bad couple of weeks for losing film people! Sarris, Ephron, Griffith, Borgnine…
I haven’t seen a lot of Borgnine films, but he’s been a big supporter of the TCM Film Festival, and I saw him there doing a Q&A for Jubal, a 1950s western that he played second lead in. He was utterly charming and a fantastic interview. I definitely need to get around to more of his films.
Looks like TCM is interrupting their schedule to do a 24-hour tribute to Borgnine on July 26th.

Most know him from The Wild Bunch, but this is a perfect opportunity to check out Marty (for which he won his Best Actor Oscar) if you haven’t!
I haven’t and keep meaning too. I’ve seen him in a lot of stuff and always enjoyed watching him on screen, but I’ve only ever seen him as a supporting player so I’m intrigued to see him in Marty.
Absolutely love Borgnine, especially in westerns. Y’all should check out his very weird cameo as a paraplegic in the French western (Starring Vincent Cassel): Blueberry (aka Renegade)

Also, a very soft spot for his cameo in Gattaca.
Airwolf!
Oh yes. What a show. I’ve got Airwolf the Movie on VHS too!
