• Tom Cruise is Jack Reacher

Could this be the next big action series? One thing is for sure: despite all of the craziness and the bad press he’s received since the couch-jumping occasion, Tom Cruise still has the ability to pull in the box office numbers. While Knight and Day did not perform to expectations (although $261 million worldwide on a $117 million budget certainly ain’t bad), the $693 million worldwide box office ($209 million in North America) for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol demonstrates that people still want to see the guy if he’s in the right kind of movie – a little more serious of an action flick, a little less silly like Knight and Day.

Could Jack Reacher be that next serious action movie?

With Werner Herzog as the villain, I’m curious. With a supporting cast of Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, and Richard Jenkins, there’s promise. With the trailer, I’m not sold. It doesn’t do anything for me. I feel like I’ve seen it before and I feel like I’ve seen it done better. Then again, perhaps when I see Herzog in action, I’ll change my mind.

The film opens up in North American theaters on December 21, 2012.

    What do you think?

One of the stupidest trailers I’ve seen in years.

  2. Andy says:

    Looks pretty cookie cutter.

I disagree. Looks like a Nic Cage movie but with Tom Cruise playing it a bit more straight. Co-stars also give it hope (Rosamund Pike deserves more roles!).

Trailer is alright, but it makes a promise. If it holds to that promise, looks like a lot of fun to me. Then again, I pretty much like 95% of all Tom Cruise movies. A lot.

I like how people say it looks stupid and Andrew disagrees while agreeing at the same time.

Also, I have no idea what the film has promised because I couldn’t for the life of you explain what the hell the film is about, let alone who the hell Jack Reacher is.

It promises to be a high octane actioner with lots of stunts and yet an air of mystery about it. An interesting looking character that will be just fun to watch kick some ass. A movie does not have to be smart to be cool/entertaining.

Again, it’s rare that Cruise makes a movie I don’t like. I can think of two or three (out of about 40).

Red was one of the dumbest movies I’ve ever seen and you love that piece of shit.

We’re not talking about me. We’re talking about how people say “It looks dumb.” and you say “No it does not! It looks whiz bang pow kaboom d-u-m-b DUMB!!!! #awesome!”

Also, I saw nothing that promises it to be high octane, or even a big action film. And judging by the synopsis, it looks like it will be more like The Lincoln Lawyer with maybe the occassional fist fight. Except The Lincoln Lawyer had the occassional fist fight. So there’s that.
