• Happy New Year

Happy New Year from Row Three and a big hearty welcome to the end of times and bad blockbuster CGI (as per the Aztecs and Mr. Emmerich, respectively), 2012!

Just a curious poll to start this year (reply in the comment section). What was the last film you watched in 2011?

This not too taxing poll idea comes about via one of my Toronto movie friends. Sasha James, aka FinalGirlProject, has had the tradition of watching Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige as the last film of the year, every year since its release date. Since that film is one of the best of the previous decade (and also about stealing ideas), I decided to take up this tradition myself, hence the above image.

Embarrassingly it was the dreadful rom-com The Holiday!

  2. Matt Brown says:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.

  3. Jandy says:

The Hudsucker Proxy! Which is actually a New Year’s film, although I didn’t even know that when we started watching it. Fortuitous.

  4. Shark Night or the 2nd half of Red Riding 1974 (had already watched first half). If that messes things up – Shark Night :)

    Contagion, rewatch still solid.

  6. Matt Gamble says:

    Tucker & Dale vs Evil

Do you really need to find more ways to reference The fucking Prestige, Kurt?

  7. Ross Miller says:

I am so sad to say the last movie I watched in 2011 was I Am Number Four. Awful film.

  8. Aaron says:

Last film of the year: The Adventures of Tintin
First film of the year: War Horse

  9. Marina says:

Last of 2011 and first of 2012: Seven. We paused for 30 mins to celebrate.

  10. David Brook says:

…and my first movie of 2012 The Motorcycle Diaries. Much more inspiring than The Holiday :)

Ended with Final Destination 5. Yeah, I should’ve known better. Fortunately I started 2012 with Certified Copy.

  12. The last film I saw theatrically was Tintin on the 27th. My literal final film of 2011 was Lethal Weapon 2, which I watched on the 30th (received the films on DVD for Christmas).

My first film of the year, which I saw right on New Year’s Day, was War Horse.
