Most true fans of Hollywood films are very familiar with the concept of anticipating a big release for weeks or months before being able to see it in the cinema. However, many of Hollywood’s best products these days tend to be “indie” films aimed at smaller markets, which do not always stick around in mainstream theaters as long. Fortunately, however, thanks to streaming services like Netflix and On Demand, these films are coming to our homes more and more quickly when they do leave the cinema. For more information on these streaming services, head to http://www.cabletelevision.net/. In the meantime, here are a couple films of the genre described above that film insiders are very excited about, and which will be released in the coming weeks.
– The Descendants will be coming out shortly, and, despite the fact that its lead role belongs to one of the world’s biggest film stars in George Clooney, is considered to be in the indie genre (and is directed by Alexander Payne, who was in charge of the smash hit Sideways). Clooney plays Matt King, who is a father and husband full of shortcomings who is forced to make changes in his life when his wife and the mother of his children is involved in a boat accident in Hawaii. As he works on changing his life and building his future, King grows closer to his daughters and has to make a difficult decision of whether or not to sell the family’s long handed-down Hawaiian land. Ultimately, this film is expected to deliver both surface comedy and emotional depth, and with Clooney in the lead role it ought to do both very well.
– Another Happy Day is another indie film coming out soon that may find a strong hold among certain audiences. Marking the debut for young writer/director Sam Levinson, the film is essentially a dysfunctional family dramedy featuring a divorced mother (Lynn, played by Ellen Barkin) hoping for a nice family reunion as her estranged oldest son gets married. However, the antics of the new wife of Lynn’s ex, along with Lynn’s younger son, largely destroy the event, and make it difficult for anyone to enjoy seeing each other for the first time in years. With a promising young director and a fantastic cast including Kate Bosworth, Barkin, Ellen Burstyn, and Demi Moore, this one should hit the mark and deliver the deep, dark family laughs and cries that it is meant to.
