Lynne Ramsay (Ratcatcher, Movern Callar) takes the ‘school shooting’ movie (now a subgenre, there are a lot of ‘em) and exaggerates emotion, dumps in dozens of foreboding signs and signifiers. The film is directed to play like a full blown horror film. Quite simply: We Need to Talk About Kevin is one of the best films of the year. (Kurt’s Review)
