Cinecast Episode 231 – Performance Enhancing!

In one of our smoothest shows ever, something perhaps entirely co-incidental, Gamble (fairly SPOILERY!) gushes all over Human Centipede’s full sequence, in all its finger-lickin’ glory. Kurt and Andrew mildly praise and mildly bash George Clooney’s latest effort, The Ides of March. From there it is onto Cancer-without-Cancer, Haitian Voodoo, late night talk show hosts, school shooting sprees, and Fuckin’ Bruges! If you stay on long enough, you might get to hear a strange and antiquated for/against battle for Mark Zuckerberg’s legacy. Enjoy.

As always, please join the conversation by leaving your own thoughts in the comment section below and again, thanks for listening!

I recommend seeking out Lucky McKee’s latest film, The Woman. It may not be easy to find, but I’d love to hear reviews of this one from the Cinecast trio. Looking forward to this episode, as always!

THE WOMAN is playing at TAD in 2 weeks (I missed it at Fantasia in July by a few days). I plan on seeing it.
it’s currently VOD in the US, and should be easy to find, actually.

Thanks for the little thank you mention guys! 😉 You’re very welcome for the poster, fun to do. And as Kurt said I have more if the guys wanna use them.

I skipped The Human Centipede 2 section of the podcast because, if nothing else, it’s one to go in blind for. I do want to see it just to see it. I didn’t have an adverse reaction to the first one because of how disgusting it was, I just didn’t think – out with its outlandish premise – that it’s a very good movie. The main actor Dieter Laser (awesome name!) was about the only genuinely quality thing in it IMHO.

I just wanna say I definitely fall on Kurt’s (and a lot of other people’s) side with The Tree of Life – fucking amazing movie. Sorry if that gets on your nerves, Matt! One of only 4 movies this year I would give the full 5 stars to.

Thanks for the shout-out, too! Seriously, though, you’re giving Beautiful Boy way too much credit. But we can agree to disagree. Maybe I can save you some time and recommend that you skip Terri–it’s very dull, but John C. Reilly is f*cking fantastic in it. Just skip all the parts he isn’t in.

And kudos to Matt for giving War of the Roses some love. I don’t think Danny DeVito made a bad film in the ’80s. Though his best was Other People’s Money.

Nat, I was beginning to think I was the only person who was really underwhelmed with Terri! Yes, Reilly is great, but overall, it was just…not that good. Everyone’s like “oh, it’s a great new unique take on the coming of age story.” No, it’s not. It’s like all the other coming of age stories, except more boring and annoying.

Well said, Jandy! If it’s cathartic (though more than a bit egotistical, my review of it is here; http://frothygirlz.com/2011/07/29/movie-review-terri/

Speaking of the awesomeness of Colin Farrell. Have you three checked out London Boulevard yet? I think you would really like it.

RE: The small bit of talk about Network TV & HBO

I have stopped judging those shows on the same levels for the simple fact that HBO did things there own way, fundamentally changing the rules of how TV would be broadcast so it isn’t that they are beating the networks at their game it is that HBO created a new game and then has populated it with content.

It is almost a new medium created within Television.

OutlawVern’s take on the narrative of Reviewing Tree of Life:

I’ll see all the Malicks, I promise. But I wanted to lay all my cards on the table here just so you know this review is not coming from one of the three places that I imagine most of the TREE OF LIFE reviews must be coming from:

1. Passionate worshipfulness – Terrence Malick is my god
2. Socially prescribed respectfulness – I have read that Terrence Malick is my god
3. Scornful anti-elitist elitism – I don’t like it but they like it and it makes me angry I bet they don’t really like it fuck you emperor’s new clothes. If I don’t ‘get’ it NOBODY will ‘get’ it!

Mine is different, mine is more just lazy ignorance.”

Just actually listened to (most of) this. My commute wasn’t QUITE long enough for it all. 🙂 Thanks for the Triage shoutout again, guys – it’s actually only been taking a few hours lately to get it done, and most of that is info-gathering busy-work that I do while watching movies or TV or something. I like the opportunity to see what all’s coming out myself, which I can’t manage to keep track of unless I’m writing a post about it and have to!

Dude, Spain didn’t shut down bullfighting! It’d be like ending with NFL for you guys.
