Well, I’m going to take a guess and say that the trailer for My Week With Marilyn does a pretty crummy job of representing the film. At least I hope so. Regardless, that probably is not why most people will be seeing this – it will be the curiosity over Michelle Williams’s ability to pull it off. By the looks of it, she very well may have her emulation down. We will find out on November 4, 2011 when it hits theater in the United States.
What do you think? Does Michelle have what it takes?

Looks like typical Oscar-baiting dross, but I’ve got a lot of time for Williams, so I’ll keep an open mind. She seems to be just about pulling it off. She doesn’t quite look or sound the same as Marilyn Monroe, but it’s the strength of the performance itself that matters, not just the ‘impression’, so we’ll see.
The cast is ridiculous in the Oscar-nomination, and BAFTA winner department. Looks pretty tame from the trailer, almost quaint — Miramax 1990s era type Oscar grabbing stuff (back then it would, I guess be Gwynneth Paltrow in the role.)
I wish Ms. Williams well, but this is not really the type of trap I want her to fall into.
It looks fine, but kinda safe. I see more Marilyn in Michelle than I expected, actually – I think Michelle is great, but I was afraid she was miscast here. Looks like she might pull it off. But the story looks pretty standard celebrity angst fare.
Does look rather Oscr-baity, but I think the last three seconds of the trailer tipped me over into wanting to see it
stop making bio-pics
Review from the Self-Styled Siren. She thinks the film is overly cliched and just the same myth over again, no new insights, but she does have high praise for Michelle Williams:
“Williams is, in fact, superb. The Siren has lost count of the actresses she’s seen playing Monroe, but Williams leaves them all in the dust. She takes the most imitated woman of all time and manages a performance that recalls every gesture and effect, while still creating a character. It’s a remarkable feat of acting.”
I’ll see it just based on that, as a fan of Michelle, much less Marilyn.
Movie looks boring as hell, but whoever said Williams can’t pull off this role because of looks or whatever just lost that argument based on this trailer.
