A big favourite at this years Cannes film festival, the French throwback to silent cinema, The Artist, is getting a release from the Weinstein Company and they assembled a pretty nice trailer which tells you all you need to know; namely that this is going to be a lot of fun. We can almost forgive that particular ‘swinging 30′s musical piece‘ that seems to be used in everything, but lack of subtlety from the marketing department Brothers W is kinda the norm.
The film has supporting work from John Goodman, Ed Lauter, Malcolm McDowell and James Cromwell, pretty odd for a french film, but then again, when you are making a silent films (as the heady days of old Hollywood) you can cast internationally without fear of accents breaking the deal. Either way, I’m ready for the ‘lets just put on a show’ mentality that this film seems to project.
Hollywood, 1927: As silent movie star George Valentin wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will cause him to fade into oblivion, he sparks with Peppy Miller, a young dancer set for a big break.

Awesome
I cannot WAIT to see this. You’re seeing it at TIFF, right, Kurt?
Indeed I am. This is one of my definite, “put up my feet and relax” movies of TIFF this year. Gotta have a few of those.
I should be at the same screening for this as Kurt. I haven’t even watched the trailer (and don’t intend to) – the concept alone has sold me. That and the effusive reviews that have been pouring in…
Have we convinced you to come to TIFF yet Jandy?
Bob, you don’t have to convince ME, you just have to convince my bank account.
Someday, I will be there.
Holy smokes! Looks awesome.
