I am totally curious as to if these types of direct to DVDs really work. I would think that they must, otherwise they wouldn’t make them. I wasn’t a fan of the second Kung Fu Panda but it must be a hundred times better than Chop Kick Panda.

Is this company THE ASYLUM of children’s animated movies?
For some reason, I can handle the idea of ASYLUM but these for kids knockoffs just seem terrible.
Well, I could never make it through an ASYLUM production (and most of ‘em are on Netflix), they exist only to be entertaining in concept and at most a 2 minute trailer.
I didn’t say I like to watch them, its more I can just understand the concept of Asylum. These kids straight to DVD just look like total crap to me and are stuff my kid even when young wouldn’t want to watch.
But doesn’t asylum make the lionshare of their profit by accidental walmart and blockbuster purchases by folks who know no better? Isn’t that the exact same aim here?
I imagine so but I guess I have less problem with ripping off ignorant adults as opposed to putting crappy shows in front of kids.
Got news for you John; most of asylums product is ripping off kids movies. I think we have different definitions of what is entertainment for kids and what is entertainment for adults
I define kids as under 10. Which I guess some of Asylum does fit in so far I’ve kept my kid away from Transformers, Monster movies, anything from Roland Emerich, Michael Bay and similar films. Isn’t this mostly what Asylum rips off?
Thor?
lol, it looks like they also do soft core porn…. oops sorry I meant teen comedies.
I only watched this with sound off so I only got the visuals so I might be judging them harshly. Maybe it is a total laugh.
2012, speedracer,
OMG THOR HAS AN UZI!!!!
That is too hilarious. I haven’t actually shown Gavin Thor yet. He did see Green Lantern but other than that the only Superhero ones we have dove into are cartoons and the Fantastic Four.
I skipped 2012 so I never even noticed the rip off version. They actually did a Speed Racer rip off. I got to see the trailer for it.
looks more like a Fast and Furious rip off.
Okay, here is my question…. How can people not just look at the art work for this crap (both the Chop Kick Panda and also everything from Asylum) and not realize that is is a knock off?
The same way that people think Heavy Metal or Country and Western music all sounds the same. Ignorance. I bet a lot of people would be fooled by this, even if all they had to do was turn it around and read the 41 minute runtime on the back of the box to know it is not even a feature film!
Hah. That street racer trailer proves my point. I can’t even tell what they are ripping off anymore from their titles! (but curiously it underscores my ignorance – this one is on me – point made above)
John, I just watched that Barely Legal trailer WITH the sound. It became infinitely worse. Honestly, I implore everyone not to repeat my mistake.
How is it possible that this poster and film can even be allowed to exist? Can’t Dreamworks sue for plagiarism or something?
nah cause they will argue that “look our movie is crap while the Kung Fu Panda stuff is good… well at least the first one is. The second, while not very good is still a million times better than our film. It is totally different.”
