He was in many many films and won lots of awards for his work in film and television. He was best known for playing the title character on NBC’s “Columbo.” I remember the show quite fondly but for some reason he sticks in my head most fondly as mob boss Max in 2001′s Made. “Because you lost my carpet cleaning van… and I don’t like you you cocksucker!”
So yes, the guy was pretty much always quirkily awesome (before quirk was a bad thing). We’ll miss that cross-eyed smirk and that hidden sense of cunning his characters always seemed to embody. Thanks for the happy years, sir. You will be missed!
What’s your favorite Peter Falk memory? Murder by Death?

Fuuuuuck.
favorite Falk is in Cassavetes’ Husbands. Great film, playing at the TIFF Lightbox in Toronto soon.
Wings of Desire is an awesome film.
Best meta role ever.
Aw, damn.
I think I actually saw him first in The Cheap Detective – I was a huge Bogart/The Big Sleep fan, and I loved The Cheap Detective‘s take on the whole private eye milieu.
I mostly remember him from The Princess Bride and Columbo. Sad to hear he’s gone.
You know. I cannot think of a bad Peter Falk performance. Loved his quirky and always amusing style of acting.
As great as he was in the titles listed already (and also the dark little crime film “Murder Inc.” from 1960), my favourite role of his has to be in “The In-Laws”. His timing and delivery were simply marvelous, whether he was describing huge baby-stealing tse-tse flies or the best chicken sandwich in the world.
I’ll definitely remember him best for Wings of Desire – he gives so much to the film with his small(-ish) role.
He’s awesome in A Woman Under the Influence too.
He’s the best! I haven’t actually seen him in anyting other than ‘Columbo’ but loved him in that series! For me, he’ll always be Columbo. He will be missed!
You should check out some of the titles listed above Ms Curious. As fun as Columbo is, those are some must-see indie/arthouse classics that I think you’ll appreciate.
Any film (and he was in some bad ones) was always made better simply by the presence of Peter Falk. Double points when he is playing himself.
