Love this film! What the hell is the deal with walk outs? Mmmmm…..perhaps Matt Gamble’s entire family was there and made up the audience? Yep, that must be it, Mr Gamble gave the signal and they all filed out in single form. In my opinion the film was great! Interesting, beautiful, cinematography and I loved the different perspective as a whole! Mmmm…my faith in the viewing public’s taste has been shattered! Still, some of the greatest classics have been initially repelled by the ‘larger audience’ and then gone on to be recognized for their true worth. Keep in mind ‘Jude the Obscure’ by Thomas Hardy as just one example. The public at the time were repulsed, the writer never wrote again. Now this work is considered a masterpiece, studied at universities and arguably in not only my opinion a beautiful work! Perhaps time is required, for ‘some people’ to appreciate films, novels, poetry etc that aren’t presented in simplistic ‘entertainment form’.

Bladerunner, Birth, Eyes Wide Shut, Heaven’s Gate, The 25th Hour, Starship Troopers to name a few. I don’t quite think HARD CANDY is in that league, but is a very solid genre film that has a great visual eye, and two compelling performances.
