The goal of the screen shot quiz it not to just guess what the movie is that the screen shot is from but to encourage discussion on the film. Feel free to shout out in the comments what the movie is and then provide an opinion or some thoughts on the movie. Oh and the first person who gets the movie right wins our respect.

Looks like Tarantino in Sukiyaki Western Django. Only seen it once but really didn’t like it. Slow paced with questionable acting (Japanese actors speaking English phonetically is brutal). Actually, I don’t think I like any Miike film.
I’m totally undecided on whether I enjoyed this one or if the whole phonetic thing ruined it for me. I haven’t dug in enough with Miike to have a real opinion yet. It is something I still have to fix oh and yes it is Sukiyaki Western Django. I was hoping that someone would have said A Serious of Unfortunate events though as Tarantino looks like Lemony Snicket in this screen shot.
I’m not a Miike fan at all. But good God was 13 Assassins fantastic!
I am surprised to hear so little buzz for miikes follo up chanbara film HaraKiri from Cannes this year.
Can’t remember where, but I’ve heard in more than a couple of places that Hari Kari is not very good.
Don’t let this out but if I have my say 13 Assassins is going to play at Dark Bridges this year.
John, you did just post that on a public forum. :p So if you don’t want to let it out… On the other hand, that would be AWESOME. Loved that film.
Harakiri is a the worst remake idea since Psycho shoot-for shot remake. The original is a masterpiece, and unlike the Let the Right One In, it cannot be transported to another culture setting or time period.
As good as Miike is as a filmmaker, he is no Masaki Kobayashi.
@Jandy:
I have a big wish list of a bunch of big name (at least to me) movies. 13 Assassins is at the top. I can’t guarantee it but I’m going to do everything I can to bring it Saskatoon. If it doesn’t happen for the festival I will make it happen some other time.
I try to go for a mix of small independent and bigger studio controlled movies for the festival.
