this was at Cannes, right? I didn’t hear a single comment about it.

It certainly has that vibe, this seems to be Clooney’s ‘mainstream’ mode at the moment after the goofy trifecta of Goats, Burn and Fox, while peppering with more exotic fare like THE AMERICAN.

(In all fairness, two films does not a trend, make, and Alexander Payne mines a VERY different vein of comedy/drama/human-condition than Jason Reitman)

Great film! Not what I was expecting at all. Just watched the trailer again and it gives off this sort of happy-go-lucky (not the movie) vibe. The soundtrack and Clooney running around all goofy-like and many of the funny bits from the movie are all here.

But the film is a lot more dramatic than that – which ultimately I really appreciated. It could’ve just been another semi-silly family dramedy but in the end these characters are going through some tough times and it’s difficult to watch. It’s one of those movies that’s good about bringing out emotions that you’re surprised are in there. The funny bits are mostly the “funny cause it’s real” kind of moments.

I’m inclined to agree with Kurt at the end of the last Cinecast – might be Clooney’s best performance to date.

I cried through half of this movie. Some of it is for personal relatability buttons, but I might have anyways. Definitely my favorite Clooney performance now.
