I can see why, it’s a very genre-ish, gory, tribute to noir and LA and Cars. Hmm, the spiritual sequel to COLLATERAL? Maybe. I’ve liked all of Refn’s films and I’m happy to hear that this one (like Valhalla Rising) is approached with a fearless confidence in the directing department. I can’t wait. Yes, Jandy, Yes you should see it. I expect this to be gritty and somewhat audience unfriendly, in a very good way!
I actually haven’t seen any of Refn’s earlier films – just going on what I know about them, though, added with this plotline and Gosling, I’m totally in. I think Valhalla Rising is still on Instant Watch here – I’ll have to get around to that soon.
I REALLY loved Bronson, but it’s often a bit too stylized at times. Tom Hardy MAKES that movie though in an absolutely stellar performance – creating a fully immersive, hynotizing character in a way that Edward Norton once did early in his career.
This is one of the galas at the LA Film Festival in a few weeks. I might have to break my “no major-release films at festivals” rule to see it.

The Pusher Trilogy. Watch that. NOW.
(If you like slow burn, a double bill between the underrated Fear X and perhaps misunderstood Valhalla Rising)
But the Pusher trilogy isn’t on Instant Watch! Well, except the third one, weirdly.
