What are people’s thoughts on Brothers Bloom out of interest? It never really got a proper cinema release over here and just quietly drifted onto DVD. It’s on my LoveFilm list (UK Netflix), but it hasn’t got through yet.
I thought it got pretty lukewarm reviews, but does anyone think differently? I absolutely loved Brick.
I liked the INTRO a lot. I think Mark Ruffalo was miscast (although I seem to love that actor in everything else) and it never quite had the ending that I *WANTED* (whatever that means) – it’s certainly fun to watch, looks great, Rinko Kikuchi is awesome, as is Rachel Weisz…but it somehow lacked the electric spark of BRICK.
I think I agree with you on every point there Kurt. I liked it better the second time I saw it, but never completely warmed to it. I really really wanted to, but it never quite got there. Kikuchi and Weisz are both fantastic in it though.
Brothers Bloom was exceedingly well made, while somewhat misguided from a narrative perspective. It’s probably the film that they’ll be using to teach film students about the sophomore film slump in film schools in the year 2100.
I have little doubt that Looper will be a hell of a thing to see.
Like Bob said, “Brothers Bloom” got much better upon second watch. It’s one I own and plan to watch a lot in the coming years. Though agreed (pretty much universally) that it’s no “Brick.”
