• Screen Shot Quiz #205

The goal of the screen shot quiz it not to just guess what the movie is that the screen shot is from but to encourage discussion on the film. Feel free to shout out in the comments what the movie is and then provide an opinion or some thoughts on the movie.

Oh and the first person who gets the movie right wins our respect.

Le Cercle Rouge– It’s an awesome film. Miller Crossing’s forest scenes are clearly an homage to this film.

  2. Bob Turnbull says:

What Antho said…As great as Le Samourai and Army Of Shadows are (and they are superb), this may be my favourite Melville (though Le Doulos ranks up there too). I love the muted colours and the blue and yellow palette he works in.

And once again Alain Delon proves that he is indeed the coolest human being ever. Or at least that he can play the coolest human beings…

  3. Jandy Stone says:

I can’t wait to check this one out – it just hit Instant Watch here in the States. Le samourai and Le doulos both topped my favorites list of the year I saw them.

And it was weirdly my intuitive guess even though I haven’t seen it – my first thought was Miller’s Crossing, but then I was like, no, these guys look vaguely French somehow…and the clothes look like a Melville film…but it’s in color…Le cercle rouge? :)

  4. Kurt Halfyard says:

It’s not Melville, but those who love Delon should definitely check out Joseph Losey’s MR. KLEIN, where he gets to play a decidedly different cat. It’s a surprising and great that mines the same territory as Christopher Plummer in Spike Lee’s INSIDE MAN. Bonus: There is some great Jeanne Moreau in there too.

  5. David Brook says:

I guessed it was this without having seen the film too. I’ve got it on DVD, but haven’t got round to watching it yet.

  6. Bob Turnbull says:

Andrew / Jandy / Dave – you should all get together and write a combined post after you’ve seen the film in order to jointly sing its praises.

  7. Yet another reminder that I need to see more Melville. My love for Bob le flambeur knows no bounds.
