• Michel Gondry / Living Sisters Music Video

So maybe this isn’t precisely movie-related, but Michel Gondry is one of our favorite directors here in the third row, and he’s still doing some music videos in between his feature films, even as he moves into the big-budget superhero film arena with The Green Hornet. This one is for Los Angeles-based group The Living Sisters, a collaboration between three of LA’s most prolific female indie artists: Becky Stark of Lavender Diamond (also featured on The Decemberists’ The Hazards of Love), Inara George of The Bird and the Bee, and Eleni Mandell of, well, herself.

The video is splitscreen between the three girls, all talking on the phone assuring each other they’re fine and not much is going on, despite the burning houses, fistfights, plane crashes, earthquakes, and baby birthings that surround them. It’s a very cute video, too twee for some, I’m sure, but pretty fascinating to watch the interactions between the three stories (which cross over more often than you initially expect). I’ve watched it three or four times now, and I’m still noticing new things in each section.
