• Bond is Back On

For those of you who were worried (and after the last two movies made a combined billion dollars worldwide, I wasn’t), Daniel Craig is officially coming back as superspy James Bond and Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, Revolutionary Road) will be directing the latest entry. Despite delay after delay, I don’t think that this news is surprising to anyone, although it is comforting to know that it will be coming to theaters as soon as November 9, 2012.

Despite my disappointment with Quantum of Solace (it wasn’t bad, it’s just tough to have to follow the likes of Casino Royale), I’ve been itching to see Craig back in the role of the suave British spy. Oh hell, I have been itching to see Daniel Craig again in any capacity. He hasn’t graced the screen with his presence since 2008 – although he is set to have a busy year in 2011 with the summer blockbuster Cowboys & Aliens, Jim Sheridan’s mystery thriller Dream House, Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin, and David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

What are your thoughts on Craig coming back as Bond? What about a director such as Mendes behind the camera? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

I’m pretty stoked. As I mentioned a week or so ago, I’m a big Bond fan and hopefully Mendes can bring something a bit different to proceedings. Daniel Craig is solid too so I’m happy to see more of him in the role. Quantum of Solace wasn’t bad, just a bit forgettable so I’m still on board with Bond, I just have to pretend Die Another Day never happened.

I’m quite glad to hear that this is back on track with Mendes still as director. I was afraid the delays would necessitate him moving on to other projects, but I’m really curious to see what he’ll do with the franchise.

  3. Yeah, I’m also pretty stoked that Bond is back. I really appreciate the new direction the Bond franchise is going in and I was hoping we’d get more than just Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

David, I think what made Quantum of Solace a little less memorable was that it was a direct sequel and didn’t really feel like its own film in comparison to Casino Royale. Despite that, I kind of liked it and appreciated that they made sure to wrap up Bond’s arc with Vesper.

  4. I’m just glad they have a release date – I have been waiting for that moreso than anything else! I really like Daniel Craig as Bond, and looking forward to seeing him in this as well as … oddly the Cowboys & Aliens. That looks nutty, but fun.
