Take a look at Joe Wright’s work as a director and you will see films such as Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, and The Soloist – seriously Oscar-bait type stuff. Knowing as much, one probably wouldn’t expect Wright’s latest film to be an action-thriller about a young teenage assassin trained from childhood to complete a mission for her ex-CIA father. Yet, that is exactly what Wright has brought us, re-teaming with one of his Atonement stars, Saoirse Ronan, in the thriller that was once being developed by the likes of Danny Boyle and Alfonso Cuarón.
It’s an interesting little trailer and has a stellar cast which includes Ronan, Eric Bana, and Cate Blanchett, but really, besides being unquestionably attractive visually, this seems to be a story that we have already seen one hundred times before. What attracted all of these names to this project? What will Joe Wright bring to the table to make this a unique experience? That remains to be seen on April 8th, 2011 when it hits theaters.
The trailer is tucked under the seat.

I’m no Joe Wright fan, but that looks like far too much fun to skip. Bana’s accent is a joy, and I’m digging Blanchett too. If Ronan is a child-reincarnation of Sissey Spacek, is this her Carrie? Either way, she seems to play the part of Angelina Jolie better than Jolie can these days….
Which Joe Wright movies did you not like out of curiosity? The Soloist was lame, but the other two are fantastic.
Atonement is a shitstorm.
I’m talking out of turn a bit. I’ve only actually seen Pride & Prejudice. I’ve not seen Atonement, and there is no bloody way I’m going anywhere near The Soloist.
This looks at times a bit too much like Salt, but I am all in for Joe Wright… hey I saw The Soloist, so I am already all in.
Looks pretty fun to me – both in characterization and visuals. Was that about a half of a second of Olivia Williams in there? That woman needs more work!
And Atonement (despite it’s lack of any masked characters) was one of the best films of that year.
