• “Enter the Void” & “Trigger” finally arrive! [Vancouver]

After what seems a year of waiting (it’s actually been nearly 2 years), Gaspar Noe’s acclaimed Enter the Void (review) is finally coming to Vancouver.

The Vancity Theatre has announced its line-up for December and among the titles listed for a limited engagement is Noe’s film which is screening between December 10th and 16th at 8:10PM nightly. Yes, I’ve already scheduled my night – there’s no way on this earth I’m going to miss this screening.

As if Noe’s film wasn’t good enough, one of the other much anticipated titles gracing the local screen is Bruce McDonald’s Trigger (review) which played TIFF earlier in the year and is scheduled to play the Whistler Film Festival. This is most timely as McDonald has three films screening at WFF (including the world premiere of Hard Core Logo 2) and it looked unlikely I’d get a chance to see both of these so it’s nice to know that if I miss it at Whistler, I’ll have a chance to catch up with it a few days later.

Another title worth mentioning is Carlos Saura’s I, Don Giovanni which made the festival rounds in 2009 but never played Vancouver. I’m a fan of Saura’s and am looking forward to catching up with the gorgeous looking film on the big screen.

This is your queue. If you’re in town, head over to the Vancity Theatre website and secure yourself a few tickets or you’ll be kicking yourself when you show up to see Enter the Void and find that it’s sold out; it’s happened to me in the past and considering the buzz around this film, it’s may happen to you. Better safe than sorry!

who needs Enter the Void when you have Uncle Boonmee around, EV is opposite of Inception in the way it visualizes quasi-dreams and it does it the soap opera cheese-way, with Vaseline all-over, I ironically hate Gaspar Noe, poor mans von Trier.

    “who needs Enter the Void”

    I do.

I am eagerly awaiting a chance to revisit this film on the big screen. It’s opening at LIGHTBOX in Toronto on DEC 30th, and although I’ll be out of town at that time, I plan on making it one of the first things I see in the New Year, if only to confirm that the first experience I had with the film is repeatable. Was my favourite film of 2009 when I caught it at TIFF.

Trigger is also absolutely amazing, any fans of talky films like Before Sunrise or My Dinner With Andrew will have a blast with this one.

I liked Boonme, I found it interesting and seductive. But the slow downer from Apitchatpong is not nearly as addictive as the pure-opiate of Enter The Void.

  5. Enter the Void was definitely interesting, that’s for sure. I think I left the theater saying “huh..” every few moments. :)

Enter the Void was pretty good. I’m a big fan of Irreversible, but no a fan of I Stand Alone. I would say Enter the Void is Noe’s second best film.

The only problem I had with Enter the Void is the last 15 minutes at the Love Hotel. Just kept going on and on.

I’ll have to return to the discussion after I’ve seen it. For now, just happy I’ll have the chance to check it out on the big screen.

Really looking forward to Trigger. Can’t tell you how happy I am see it’s playing just after WFF. They’ve scheduled this up again HCL2 and there was no way I could see both. Now it’s actually quite possible!

So are we going to get a full review here? Saw this last night and I kind of freaking loved it, but I’d like to read a review from someone intelligent and who actually knows things (i.e. not me).

I was completely transfixed for the entire runtime (in fact the film only felt like it was an hour long) and thought it was quite beautiful. Since this final version of the film was technically released this year, I am putting it into my top 10 of 2010. Amazing stuff and I can’t wait to watch it again.

Great review; this part sums it up well for me:
“Call it the fusion of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Eyes Wide Shut” Probably part of the reason I love it so much since I am a huge fan of Kubrick.

The camera work in this film is so amazing. I love the panning shots from the perspective of the kid as he floats over everything, actually going through walls and the muted sound throughout.

Anyway, I don’t really have anything else intelligent to add, but I thought this was great and I may try and catch it again before it leaves the theatre here.

I’m waiting for my copy of Visitor Q to arrive before I listen to the MC Podcast, but thanks for the reminder.
