With Blu-Ray only recently making an appearance in my household, we’ve been reluctant to re-purchase some of the titles we already had on DVD but once in a while, something comes along to encourage a re-purchase. Add the upcoming holiday season in the near future and there are definitely a number of titles in this new Alliance release that I’d be more than thrilled to add to my collection.
The Steelbook Series features 12 titles (two of which, No Country for Old Men and Gangs of New York, were release on September 28th), most of which worthy or a purchase, particularly if you have, for whatever reason, not yet added these titles to your collection.
The limited edition Steelbooks go on sale on November 2nd and “feature never before released artwork” along with all of the goodies that were included in the previously released DVD versions of the films. As for the titles, they’re a pretty impressive list of flicks, with the exception of one (how did Law Abiding Citizen make it on the list with the rest of these titles?), the majority of which could make my Christmas wish list.
The titles are Kill Bill Vol. 1, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Sin City, Memento, A History of Violence, Traffic, Hot Fuzz, Shawn of the Dead, Pan’s Labyrinth and the aforementioned Law Abiding Citizen.
I love the holidays.

I see these all of the time on eBay and while I agree the artwork is pretty awesome (loved the “No Country” one) they are ridiculously expensive – often times twice what you’d pay for a Criterion Blu-ray brand new. I think the Monsters Inc. steelbook is going for close to ninety bucks!
OK – that’s INSANE. These are nowhere that expensive. The Canadian suggested retail price for these is $30 a pop though most places have them available for pre-order for $22.
HMV has them priced at $19.99 a pop.
