Though the Zombie craze over the past few years has reached the height of its annoying fever pitch, it seems that these things will just keep on coming. I know there are at least three zombie related films being released over the next 10 months and now here we are with a zombie TV show. Sigh.
That said, this trailer looks pretty decent. With Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, The Mist) at the helm as creator and director (for at least the pilot episode), this AMC production certainly got my attention and has got me convinced to at least set up the DVR on Halloween night (I’ll be out smashing pumpkins and stealing kids’ candy) so’s I can deal with my hangover the next morning with some brain eating action.
I’m interested to see how far someone can take a zombie outbreak scenario and make it run for an entire season… or potentially more than one season. The opening looks like they just stole the idea from 28 Weeks Later: guy wakes up in a hospital, zombies everywhere, adapt and survive. The difference here is this guy is a cop and is trained to be somewhat badass. So again, I’ve been loosely following the production on this for some time and look forward to checking it out, even though the zombie fad is starting to grate a bit on my soul.
Check out the trailer for “The Walking Dead” below. What do you think?

You know this is based on a comic book series, right? A series which has been going strong for over six years now and is among the most entertaining stuff in that medium. I assure you the story, very character driven as it is, can hold your attention for seasons on end. I think this has the potential to be ridiculously awesome. But I love zombies, so maybe I’m overhyping it for you.
Yeah I actually did know that. As mentioned, I’ve loosely been following the production on this for some time – mostly from Dave over at Filmrot who has been mentioning it on several shows over the past few weeks.

True … but 28 Days Later was release two years before the comic even started.
I will still give the show a chance.
The Walking Dead draws from just about every zombie film that’s ever been made. Pigeon holing it as a 28 Days Later rip-off is selling it short.
I never meant to imply that the entire show is a rip-off from 28 Days. It seems clear from my words that it is the opening or set up that is a direct “steal.”
Hi, just wanted to mention that from what I understand, the writer of the comic Robert Kirkman actually finished and sent in the scripts for the comic before 28 Days Later was released. (not entirely sure but the first single issue might even have been drawn and finished before the movie premiered)
For what it’s worth the similarity to 28 Days Later is purely coincidental.
However, they probably should have changed the beginning for the tv-show though as everyone will be screaming rip-off and maybe not even give the show a chance. Because god damn, the comic is amazing and up there as one of the best zombie/post-apocalyptic fiction of any medium. Craaaaazy stuff happens. Crazy horrible brutal un-thinkable stuff. Stuff you usually wouldn’t see on tv and I really hope they follow the comic and go there.
Oh dear god please be a hit. Please. Please. Please.
