Gareth Edwards’ low-budget, high-concept sci-fi film Monsters has been the talk of genre-loving film blogs since it started screening at festivals a few months ago. I saw it at the LA Film Fest and quite enjoyed it (review), though I’ve not hyped it up quite as much as some other sites have, partially because the hype is lending itself to comparisons that aren’t particularly accurate or helpful. Edwards may be the next Neill Blomkamp in terms of getting a lot out of a small budget, but Monsters is not much like District 9, which could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. In any case, the trailer for the film dropped last week, in advance of its October 29th release from Magnet films.
The trailer puts a lot more focus on the sci-fi elements and a lot less on the characters, which is not an accurate balance for what is really a character piece with the monsters mostly in the background, but it does give a good idea of the look and feel of the film, at least during those parts that are more monster-y.
Check it out after the jump.
