Trailer for Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY

While our contributors were split on Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s last film, Sugar (Marina’s review, Andrew’s review), Fleck’s Half Nelson (which Boden co-wrote with him) is loved dearly around these parts.

The duo’s newest film just maybe be something to get excited over though. Based on the 2006 young adult novel by Ned Vizzini, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Fleck and Boden shared writing and directing duties on the film, which follows a depressed and suicidal teenager (played by the relatively unknown Keir Gilchrist) who checks himself into an adult psychiatric ward. While there he finds unlikely companionship (Zach Galifianakis) as well as love (Emma Roberts). It looks solid and definitely looks to be a lot more light-hearted than their previous work, while still tackling some pretty heavy subject matter.

The trailer is Tucked under the seat. And feel free to leave your thoughts on this project in the comments. Bonus points if you have read the book.

  1. Hey… it's Faraday!

I was already looking forward to this – the trailer looks pretty good though Galifianakis looks fabulous. I'm happy to see him busy – really loving this guy.
