• Star Wars The Old Republic Cinematic Trailer

Okay, so this is for a game, not a movie, but I don’t care. It’s a cinematic trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO coming out probably early 2011, and it’s freaking gorgeous. It probably has little to do with what gameplay will actually be like, but whatever. Even taking this on its own as a short film, it’s pretty awesome. Done by Blur Studios, who do a lot of cinematic trailers for games and other animation projects, all of which are top-notch.

There isn’t a single battle in the awful prequel trilogy that is even half as cool as this. As far as the game goes though, I have little interest. Back when Star Wars Galaxies launched in 2003, I had been following it religiously before its release and bought it the very first day of release… and it was so, so, so bad.

From what I’ve read and seen, I’m expecting The Old Republic to be a lot better than Galaxies. That said, I never played Galaxies – I’ve never actually played any MMOs; this would be my first if I had a PC. If they actually do a Mac version of it (I don’t know if that works in online games, can they do it cross-platform?), I’m up for giving it a try. Who did Galaxies? This is Bioware, who did the amazing Knights of the Old Republic games, Mass Effect, etc. Granted MMOs are different, but they’ve certainly got the RPG part and the gigantic stories in complex universes part down.

Yes, Bioware is one of the best in the biz and Sony Online Entertainment did Galaxies, but they can say whatever they want. I was burned too badly. The wounds were too deep. The scars I live with every day!

Yeah, I was about to write what Jonathan already has – this is 10 times as cool as anything in the prequels. It looks beautiful as well.

The game sounds awesome, but MMO’s scare me – they’re way too life-dominating. I got into WOW for a couple of months, but banned myself from it after spending a silly amount of time on it.

Why can’t George Lucas make something like this? It’s his dammed story.
