    Lebanon

Set entirely in a tank, Samuel Moaz’s debut film, Lebanon, won the prestigious Golden Lion at Venice last September, and took a lot of Israeli film awards. While it is no Das Boot, it is a very solid bit of anti-war filmmaking that is well worth your time. And the ‘entirely from the POV of the tank’ is no gimmick here. There is plenty on the panic and the fog of war. (My Review when I caught it at TIFF last year.)

June, 1982 – The First Lebanon War. A lone tank and a paratroopers platoon are dispatched to search a hostile town – a simple mission that turns into a nightmare. The four members of a tank crew find themselves in a violent situation that they cannot contain. Motivated by fear and the basic instinct of survival, they desperately try not to lose themselves in the chaos of war.

The film is getting a limited release in August from Sony Pictures Classics.

Trailer is tucked under the seat.

Metrodome have picked this up in the UK and they’re my regular screener senders so hopefully I’ll pick up a copy soon to review for my blog.

  2. Kurt Halfyard says:

Word of warning though David, Lebanon benefits significantly from being seen on the big screen.
