Messing with Star Wars has become a national past time for anyone with any kind of computer editing skills and a thirst to see themselves holding a lightsaber. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. When it does, it pretty darn cool.
In anticipation of The FIFA World Cup this year, Adidas took the infamous cantina scene from Episode IV and added all manner of unsavory characters to the mix. Including Snoop Dogg wielding a lightsaber and as it turns out it was Jay Baruchel who shot Greedo first. Other kids invited to the party include: David Beckham, Daft Punk, Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara and DJ Neil Armstrong. This madness is quite fun and actually quite impressive with how seamless it appears to be.

This is done so seamlessly that I’d like to see something like this in a feature film. I know Kung-Pow: Enter the Fist sort of already did it, but what about taking something a little bit bigger and more well known and updating it with a different actor. Some might say blasphemy (depending on the film I suppose) while others might say an interesting concept.
What if Nick Nolte had played Han Solo? What if it was George Clooney in Charade or hell, Seth Rogen in Every Thing You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* But Were Afraid to Ask? Could be fun to check out.
Check out Trials and Tribble-ations from Deep Space Nine if this sort of thing makes you want to fuck.
I think this is a great promo! It’s really well done and has a lot of attention to detail.
Boogie Studio remixed all of the original Star Wars cantina sound effects and character dialogue with the new ones from the celebrities and other characters.
It’s a fun campaign and a great way to kick off FIFA 2010.
