• Screen Shot Quiz #188

Everyone who said Sleuth was correct on Friday. If you enjoy beautifully shot movies with very few actors playing off of each other with very little outside influence then you really do need to check it out. Today’s quiz is another movie that I don’t feel ever got the recognition that it deserves. It wasn’t really panned by the critics or anything but is more of one of those unheard of gems that is really enjoyed by those who have seen it.

I will post the answer to the quiz tomorrow along with the next quiz. Please feel free to discuss the movie once you have made your guess. Even if you are wrong we’d love to discuss you guess.

  1. Kurt says:

One of the underseen gems of the 1990s, Danny Boyle’s SHALLOW GRAVE. Those three actors (Kerry Fox, Ewan McGregor and Christopher Eccleston, all knock it out of the park in that one.

  2. David Brook says:

Damn, beat me to it. It was quite popular in the UK at the time although not talked about much these days. It’s tense and well performed if a little OTT towards the end. I haven’t seen it for years though, it’s well worth a revisit.

  3. John Allison says:

I caught Shallow Grave in the theatre here actually. I’m not sure how I heard about at the time but it looked interesting. It was actually one of my favourite movies from the year and it turned me into an Eccleston fan.

  4. Kurt Halfyard says:

Eccleston is great in ELIZABETH (and 28 Days Later…) as well. Didn’t catch is turn on Dr. Who, (I believe he was the first doctor in the reboot of that TV show).

My wife picked it up at the Video Shop back in 1994 (well before we started dating) just to hang out and watch as friends (yay a movie where friends kill each other over guilt and money….!) hmmm…..

  5. Jandy Stone says:

Eccleston is great on Doctor Who. Not sure if I love him as much as I do Tennant, but he plays the Doctor really humorously and winningly. Don’t think I’ve seen him in anything else, though. Well, okay, I’ve seen both Elizabeth and 28 Days Later, but I don’t remember him in them because I didn’t know him then – now I’d probably be distracted by the Doctor Who connection.
