  • Third Annual Row Three Oscar Live Blog Announced!

    13

Row Three Live Blogs the OscarsThey’re almost here! Good thing too because I need another excuse to use my cow bell before World Cup action kicks off in June. Obviously, I’m talking about the Oscars and we’re getting ready for a whole lot of action.

As per previous years, we’re going to be sharing the evening with the readers via a highly entertaining live chat/blog which last year proved to be so exciting, it was more entertaining than the show itself (I know, not too much of a stretch). Considering all of the changes to this year’s show, it’s bound to give us a lot to talk about besides the rivalry between James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow.

So come on by on Sunday, March 7th to join in the fun. The show starts at 5PM pacific time but we’ll likely kick things off at 4:30PM or so with a call for shooters every time Andrew mentions how awesome Penelope Cruz looks.

So mark your calendar, set your reminder, make your trip to the liquor store early, be sure to enter our Oscar Pool Contest and then tune in on Sunday!

And yes, we’ll remind you again on Friday.

  • Row Three New Design

    19

Guess what everyone. It is time again for us contributors to become bored with our site. When this happens I end up spending a bunch of time (which is actually a lot of fun as I love playing with the design) in long discussions with the contributors, many design committee meetings and finally many hours sitting in front of my computer banging my head against the table when the design is 2 pixels off.

Seriously though, I hope everyone enjoys the tweaked look for Row Three. I am sure there are glitches (like I just noticed that I forgot to do a search box) and I appreciate everyone’s patience while I fix the them. If do you notice something that doesn’t look right or is down right broken feel free to send an email to john@rowthree.com and I’ll fix it as soon as possible.

Oh and don’t forget there are only a few more days to enter in the Oscar Pool!

Also… don’t you just love freaking out cats.

Contempt, playing on TCM late Sunday/early Monday

Of the new ones this week, I’m most excited about catching Days of Heaven myself (Monday on TCM), since it’s part of the Easy Riders, Raging Bulls marathon. Don’t know if I’ll watch it right away, though; I’m trying to keep in somewhat chronological order watching those. Other notable newly features ones: West Side Story and Rebel Without a Cause on Tuesday, Alien on Wednesday (I’m long overdue a rewatch on that one), All the President’s Men on Thursday, and Jean-Luc Godard’s Contempt late Sunday/early Monday.

    Monday, March 1

    8:30am – IFC – American Splendor
Harvey Pekar is one of the more idiosyncratic graphic novelists there is (”comic book” doesn’t quite cover his very adult, neurotic art), and Paul Giamatti brings him to life perfectly.
2003 USA. Directors: Shari Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini. Starring: Paul Giamatti, Hope Davis.
    (repeats at 3:30pm)

    10:15pm – TCM – Days of Heaven
Terrence Malick has made his reputation on only four films; this is his second, some five years after debut Badlands. I haven’t watched it yet, but it’s on the Easy Riders, Raging Bulls Marathon list, so I will be before long – and judging by the screencaps I’ve already seen, I’m expecting to love it.
1978 USA. Director: Terrence Malick. Starring: Richard Gere, Brooke Adams, Sam Shepard.
