It’s always nice to see a festival film that you really enjoyed getting a distribution deal and at least somewhat of a wider release. Last week, thanks to Kurt, we got a look at the new marketing poster (to your right) for The Joneses (my review) – one that looked rather snappy I might add. And today, the new trailer has been making its way round the nets as well.
I took somewhat care in my review not to give away too much of the plot as I think the less you know going into this picture, the better off you’re going to be. The trailer does give away a little more of the general plot than I’d like (as I understand it really has to), but it smartly doesn’t dive into too much detail. The picture is a nice stab and slash at materialism in suburban United States with some clever plot developments and a snappy, witty feel. Of course, with Duchovny in the lead, what else would you expect? The film is actually a little darker than this preview lets on and there is more to this story than meets the eye upon first appearances.
It’s a solid flick that I’m sure will get very mixed reviews critically as it’s not quite as clever as it could be and it wears a lot of its message right on its sleeve. But all in all the cast and performances are great (Gary Cole!) and the twists in storyline along with some of the wit really holds together nicely. Check out the trailer below… and yes, Demi still looks mighty fit for age 48.

That trailer does a very good job selling the movie (is that appropriate or ironic, considering the subject matter).
David Duchovny, why don’t you love me?
Looks fantastic.
