I‘m wondering: is Kick-Ass going to be a surprisingly good movie? Having never read the comics that the movie is based on, I don’t know much about the story other than what I’ve seen from the trailer: a socially awkward teenager decides to become a superhero despite having no superpowers. He soon gets in over his head. It’s directed by Matthew Vaughn, who has been two for two so far as a director with Layer Cake and Stardust, and this inspires confidence. I am also really digging this new trailer that was released, which you can watch below.
What do you think? Is Kick-Ass going to rock and bring something fresh to the table or just be another immature, lackadaisical comedy?
EDIT: Here is a short Red Band trailer I just found. There is no way this sucker isn’t getting an R-rating!

The comic book is a lot of fun. By most accounts the movie is a worthy adaptation.
Although there’s gonna be a lot of fanboy hoopla to wade through which I don’t really understand because the comic has never had the following of Watchmen or Sin City.
It’s not grand is scope or anything, it’s just got a fun hook. The comic is just a simple grimy little actioneer. AKA the kind of thing I love.
The trailers so far have all looked great, and I’m fully anticipating this to be simply a fun time at the movies. I don’t care too much if it doesn’t reinvent the wheel of comic book lore, but if it does a few new things with the genre, that’s just fine with me.
Side-note: I’m fairly amused that the city this movie’s set in has its own Empire State Building AND CN Tower…
The comics are borderline insane at times, and I’ve only heard that the film is a pretty faithful adaptation. Toss in the pitch perfect casting of Nick Cage and I’m sold.
Oh good lord, I just found another clip. This movie is going to be fantastic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQNnY6-dFu8&feature=related
Ha ha.
Nick Cage is back on track.
