Mary & Max – Why has this Been Overlooked?
I stopped off at my favourite theatre in town and discovered the poster for Mary & Max up on the wall. I hadn’t heard anything about it. I chatted with the manager a bit and discovered that the distributors didn’t even have posters ready for the movie and they weren’t really pushing it. The trailer looks amazing, it stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Toni Collette and it is receiving terrific reviews. My guess is that it is being under-sold and overlooked simply because it is an animated film. All, I have to say is damn, I hate the general theatre going audience who only want their animation to be for kids. I for one am going to check this out. If its as good as it looks then I may end up having to change my best of the year list.

I saw something from, I think it was Maple Pics, announcing a DVD release next year. I vaguely remember hearing something about it but it never really popped onto my radar.

It played at Sundance this spring, and I was really interested in it, but then I didn’t hear anything else about it since. It’s Australian, I think. If it’s in theatrical release now, it sure snuck out without any notice! I’ll have to look for it.

Movie is great, one of my favorites of the year. No idea why it hasn’t gotten a big release!

I missed this one during its brief run at both the Royal and the Bloor here in Toronto. I’m kinda regretting that. (And as an aside, this is the first film ever that Philip Seymour Hoffman doesn’t sound like Philip Seymour Hoffman (and yea, I’m including Capote…))

Does anybody remember there was an Australian movie that was supposed to come out this year that used the same type of claymation that looked pretty cool? This kind of reminded me of that but i cant remember the name of it or if it ever came out.
