I was expecting just some run-of-the-mill B-movie sci-fi flick, but it's incredibly well put-together. The way the first half hour builds, when you know something weird is going on but you don't know what, and the cops just go about their business investigating, never losing their cool in spite of the strangeness, is just awesome.
