2009 has not been the best year for me and and movies. I’ve been pretty busy with everything but movies. As we are all starting to consider our best of 2009 I came to the conclusion that my list would be pretty sparse. Therefore I need your help. Give me suggestions and on my week off after Christmas I will try to watch as many of the suggestions as possible. While, I don’t mind a whole bunch of recommendations for comedies I will probably only fit one in to that week and that will either be Observe and Report, Funny People or The Hangover. I’m not a huge fan of the current Hollywood comedy style.

You’d be a fool not to include IN THE LOOP or A SERIOUS MAN as your two comedies. I dug Observe & Report, so give ‘r on that one.

I’m adding Two Lovers and Redland (if you can find it) to the list.
Haven’t seen either of Marina’s.
On Kurt’s list I’ve seen:
District 9

Battle of Red Cliff (The Original 2 part version)
Inglourious Basterds
Coraline
Moon
The Hurt Locker
Public Enemies
Black
The Class
Drag Me To Hell
Ponyo
Its funny… those are all pretty good but it still feels like I haven’t seen much this year.
Oh and I did see A Serious Man
Away We Go. there that’s easier than Kurt’s list.
Duplicating some of Kurt’s list, but here are some of my top twenty this year not on your “seen it” list.
An Education
Where the Wild Things Are
I Killed My Mother
Up
Sin Nombre
The Girlfriend Experience
The Brothers Bloom
Away We Go
Moon
Up
(500) Days of Summer
Anvil! The Story of Anvil
In the Loop
For fun: Fanboys
And I know you’ve seen Pontypool
I also highly recommend Every Little Step, documentary on casting a reprisal of A Chorus Line. Fantastic film if interested in the performing arts.
What Kurt said. Plus ANTICHRIST and BROKEN EMBRACES.
And don’t forget you have NY Lately on your list as well!
no, John, simplify. Just watch Away We GO ten times.
and if you have Movies on Demand via Shaw Cable, than watch Collapse.
Trying not to repeat and not including too many from TIFF as you wouldn’t have a chance to see them anyway (at least in legal R1 or theatrical form):
Adventureland
I Love You, Man (not great, but gave me several good laughs)
The Box (shut up Kurt)
Paranormal Activity
Dead Snow
Thirst
Objectified
but I agree with Andrew that you should make it a family movie night and watch AntiChrist.
The Wrestler.
Thirst and Objectified are certainly worth a look.
Forgot about Adventureland. It is a must see. Solid pic.
I just bumped it off of my top ten of 09.
But yes, still a solid little movie.
