I’m a fan Peter Berg’s work but I must admit I didn’t know exactly what to make of the announcement that Berg was working on a film based on the once popular board game “Battleship.” Though I considered that he may have completely lost his marbles but whatever, everyone is entitled to a few shitty films. But then, just as I’d almost written the entire thing out of my mind and tucked it away as “things to forget until the release date” (which, BTW, has already been set for August 5th, 2011), comes news that not only gets my attention, but excites me.
Yes. That’s right. I’m actually excited for Battleship. What caused this sudden change of heart? Want to know how to make a girl (or at least this girl) excited to see your stupid film based on a board game? You introduce aliens into the equation.
According to Latino Review tipsters (and these guys are usually bang on with their insider information), the major selling point behind Berg’s film is that the battleships are targeting freakin’ aliens.
Yes, in my books, almost everything is made better by aliens. Now we just have to sit tight and wait for a first glimpse at these aliens. Will we even see them or just their ships? Oh I’d dying to find out!

Disappointing. Devin has been saying that Berg’s was concocting an awesome nautical battle epic snuck in under a franchise banner. Guess not.
Hm. I was all excited until Rusty’s comment made me realize that would be cool too.
