Hi there. I work for Microcinema International. We curate, exhibit and distribute the moving image arts.

I noticed you are a fan of Luis Buñuel. I know you know "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgiousie," but what about "Death in the Garden?"

Big news to share! Luis Buñuel's "Death in the Garden" will be reviewed in the New York Times! The review should be in the Arts and Entertainment section of this coming Sunday's paper. Be on the look out for it!

Warmest Regards,
Microcinema International

AMC's mostly crap these days, though (except for Mad Men and Breaking Bad), and they put commercials in the films. I hate that. HBO/Showtime I could start doing. I don't get them, but I could still look up the program guides online. Do they show films in original aspect ratios now? I remember they used to crop them and I hate that, too.

I'd like to start doing something for Netflix Instant Watch or streaming hulu titles - Netflix has a TON of great stuff streaming now, and hulu has more than you'd expect. I just know we have a fair-sized non-US-based audience, and it wouldn't be particularly relevant to them. But I don't know; I guess not everything has to be relevant to everybody. Thoughts?

Rick, people do let me know that they appreciate it, and I'm glad - it encourages me those Sunday evenings when I'm running late getting it put together (as I inevitably am). Thanks for letting me know it's useful to you!

I'm sure you hear this a lot -- or at least I hope that you do -- but this weekly feature is such a great thing. So... many many thanks. I DVR movies non-stop... and this is such a help.

Yeah, I like it a lot because it so perfectly embodies the end of an era - both the era of the frontier itself and of traditional westerns. It completes the golden age of westerns, where the white hats always do the right thing and the black hats are always evil; that's done now, and it points forward to the more morally ambiguous westerns of the later '60s, '70s, and on.

I've only seen a couple of other Peckinpah films, I think...The Wild Bunch might be the only other one. Which is definitely more violent than Ride the High Country.

It is also one of the more 'tame' (in the violence dept) Pekinpah films. A classic 'decline of the frontier' story done really really well. Yea, I'm a big fan of RthC as well.

Anyone who enjoys a great Western needs to catch Peckinpah's Ride the High Country, Friday at 8pm... I caught it earlier this year for the first time and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Not much of a fan of other Peckinpah films, but this one is perfect.
