WFF09For years the Whistler Film Festival was the little festival on the mountain. I’d heard about it in the past but never paid too much attention since the film selection seemed limited and too much of an effort (and expense) to get to for just a few days. But last year the festival managed to catch my attention, showing a few excellent titles and this year they’re well on the road to outdoing themselves.

The festival, which runs from December 3rd to 6th, has announced this year’s line-up and it’s rather impressive. It includes the Canadian premiere of Ken Loach’s Looking for Eric, Sook Yin Lee’s Year of the Carnivore, the North American premiere of Malcolm Venville’s 44 Inch Chest (starring John Hurt, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane and Tom Wilkinson), Robert D. Siegel’s Big Fan starring Patton Oswalt (the trailer for which looked excellent), Peter Stebbings superhero comedy Defendor starring Woody Harrelson (and one of my favourites the great Elias Koteas) and The Trotsky starring Jay Baruchel. Among those great titles, the film I’m most excited to see is Tom Ford’s A Single Man which is also playing at the festival. Loads more details (including accommodation deals) and festival titles at the official website!

Phew, I’m out of breath just looking at the list! Stay tuned to this space for more coverage of the festival. We hope to have a correspondent on the ground filling us in on all the great details!
