When the first trailer for Avatar was released a few months back, there seemed to be a collective chorus of “Was that it?” spreading through blogs and Twitter and movie forums. It seemed somewhat interesting, but ultimately extremely underwhelming, considering the amount of hype surrounding the movie. The unpolished special effects in the trailer also didn’t help the cause.
Now a new trailer has been released with a little more insight into the characters and the plot of the story, perhaps as a direct response to the backlash that the first trailer received around the web. Opening with some overused Steve Jablonsky music from The Island, it sets the tone for the film: it’s going to be an epic melodramatic action-packed adventure in typical James Cameron fashion. The trailer has some real silly moments, but for me, it works overall and I think this looks more like the Avatar that we expected before the first trailer was released. I don’t expect the movie to be that good really, but I think it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun to watch in IMAX, some real sci-fi escapism.
Thoughts?

Jurassic Park meets Apocalypto on Endor.
as much as I joined those poking fun at the first trailer, that one had me able to give more of the benefit of the doubt. This one though, has pretty much eroded any excitement that was there at all. I may see it, but I really don’t care at all.
Really, Goon? What is particular is it about this trailer that turns your off? Granted, with the Braveheart-like war cries and cheesy dialogue, you know this isn’t going to be a mature Blade Runner-esque sci-fi flick, but with James Cameron behind the camera, what did you expect?
There was enough mystery in the first trailer to have me intrigued. The military shit and the “I’m one of them now!” stuff, doesn’t do anything for me. So instead of a Delgo ripoff its a 3d CGI Last Samurai or Dances With Wolves, with a lead actor I like even less.
And as I’ve said a couple times before, I’m barely a James Cameron fan. I like Aliens and the Abyss, True Lies is okay, and I can take or leave anything else. I actually actively dislike Terminator 2.
fuck, I just realize I mistook Sam Worthington for Channing Tatum. But if you look at their IMDB pictures except for the ears you could see why. They’re both bland-as-fuck looking people.
Bland as fuck, maybe, but the women drool over that Tatum guy. As for Worthington, these Hollywood guys really see something in him: this movie, the new Terminator, The Clash of the Titans… and rumor has it he may be playing Captain fucking Nemo. He either sold his soul to the devil or he has a hell of an agent.
I think we are going to get what is expected from this movie though: an experiment of pushing the visual boundaries of the medium than anything else.
I’m with Goon on this, I am now even less interested in Avatar than I was after the underwhelming 1st teaser.
This is going to be Cameron’s “Disney’s Dinosaur” movie perhaps. A lot of money spent for very little in the ‘interesting story’ dept.
Then again, I’m the guy who said that Transformers would not make much money…
i think it would be hilarious if the Michael Jackson documentary makes more at the box office.
it looks like the visual effects used for Avatar are pretty much untouchable
