So we’re only about a week away from the opening of The Box. Will they push the button? The clip below doesn’t really answer that question and in fact, doesn’t really do much of anything. However, it does give us a little bit of a feel for the movie’s style – which is unique in an influenced kind of way. I feel a little bit of a John Carpenter vibe and even a little bit of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining from this clip. Far less splashy and glossy than the original trailer.

I realize that those are big name drops for a guy who’s only made two previous films. But hey, both of said films were ambitious as all hell and have a definite, distinct style all their own, so who knows? Maybe Richard Kelly is the next John Carpenter or Kubrick. Though he’s going to have to start making films that aren’t a convoluted mess. So here’s hoping The Box is the film it has the potential to be. In the meantime, enjoy the style of the clip that I tucked under the seats (compliments of MTV).
